Plot: Newly elected New York state congressman Steve Carell is literally told by God (Morgan Freeman) that a flood is coming and to build an ark ala Noah in the Book of Genesis. Thus, the typical insanity follows with animals pairing up for their journey, Carell’s looks changing to appear as if he is straight from a Cecil B. DeMille film, and everyone around him being convinced he has totally lost it mentally. Family-friendly featherweight film is not a bad little flick with likable characters and quietly impressive special effects, but there is not much to work with here other than clever sight gags and one-trick pony antics. Carell is a screen presence though and honestly I think this one may be slightly better than the Jim Carrey/Jennifer Aniston original which went on to box office glory in 2003. As usual Freeman is the greatest asset, but really he lacks the screen time he should have had and his talents are better suited in higher brow ventures.
